(Edinburgh) The Recommendation states ´During the attack on Gouzeaucourt on September 18, 1918, this man worked continuously dressing wounded in the open and bringing them in under very heavy M.G. fire. His Company Commander being hit, he carried this officer into a trench, dressed his wounds and with his squad brought the officer to t he R.A.P. under heavy fire. Having cleared the wounded of his company, he heard that the S.B.s of another company had become casualties and at once volunteered to take his squad to clear the wounded, which he did most successfully. His disregard of personal safety and tender devotion to the wounded were most praiseworthy.´ Second Lietenant William Allison White, 28th Battalion Machine Gun Corps, was awarded the Victoria Cross for the same action.´
