Barrett-Lennard, Essex Regiment, late Army Service Corps, a Founding Board Member of Imperial Airways Order of the British Empire, 1st type, Military Division, Commander´s (C.B.E.) neck Badge, silver-gilt and enamel; Queen´s South Africa, four clasps, Cape Colony, Paardeberg, Driefontein, Transvaal (Capt. J. Barrett-Lennard. A.S.C.); 1914-15 Star (Capt. Essex R.); British War and Victory Medals (Lt. Col.); France, Legion of Honour, Fifth Class, breast Badge, silver, gold centres, and enamel, extremely fine, together with an Imperial Airways 9ct. gold (Hallmarks for Bristol 1928) Director´s Pass, named in enamel ´Lt. Col. J. Barrett-Lennard C.B.E.´, this extremely fine and extremely rare, one of only 18 issued (7) Estimate £ 500-600 Lieutenant Colonel John Barrett-Lennard, C.B.E. (1863-1935), 2nd Lieutenant 1890 and Lieutenant 24 G.P.O. Battalion 1892; Captain 1895, and was noted for duty in the Post Office Corps and later in the Army Service Corps. He reported for duty with the 9th Battalion Essex Regiment September 1914 and embarked for France (Major) 30.5.1915 (M.I.D. London Gazette 18.12.1917); appointed Assistant Controller of Salvage and Deputy Surveyor General of Supply (Lt. Col.) February 1918 (C.B.E. London Gazette 3.6.1919); retired October 1919; became Director and Chairman of Handley Page Ltd. 1921-26 and an original Director of Imperial Airways.
