Wood, Commanded 1st Battalion Essex Regiment Order of the Bath, Military Division, Companion´s breast Badge (C.B.), silver-gilt, gold central appliqués, and enamel, with its riband buckle; Queen´s South Africa, four clasps, Cape Colony, Orange Free State, Johannesburg, Diamond Hill (Lt. Col. C. Wood, C.B. 1/Essex Rgt.); King´s South Africa, two clasps (Essex Rgt.), minor enamel chipping, otherwise extremely fine (3) Estimate £ 800-1,000 Lieutenant Colonel Cyril Wood, C.B., born Littleton, Middlesex; passed Royal Military College, 1871; entered 73rd Regiment as Sub-Leiutenant July 1872; transferred to the 56th Regiment the following year; Captain 1st Battalion Essex Regiment 1882 and Major 2nd Battalion 1886; advanced Lieutenant Colonel 23.2.1900 and commanded the 1st Battalion of his regiment 1900-1904 (C.B. for services in South Africa; Mentioned in Lord Roberts Despatch of 10.4.1901 for Meritorious Service); previously served in Ceylon, India, Egypt and Malta variuously from 1872-1887; retired from his command, February 1904.
