Gilling, Royal Corps of Signals The Recommendation states ´This NCO was in charge of the line party of the Signal Section during the operations on the R. Escaut between 20 May and 23 May. Working under extremely dangerous conditions he led his linesmen repeatedly by day and night on journeys to repair the lines to forward units. He set his men an outstanding example of courage and devotion to duty and succeeded in maintaining the communication during an important period of the operations.´
