Oakleaves (Lieut. H.F. Knight. R.A.F.); Jubilee 1935; Coronation 1937; Coronation 1953, extremely fine, the group mounted as worn (d) Life Saving Society, bronze medal, reverse engraved ´E.F.Knight´, extremely fine, in case of issue, with some original documents relating to the Order of the Star of India. (lot) Estimate £ 6,000-7,000 Sir Henry Foley Knight K.C.S.I., C.I.E. (1886-1960), educated at Hailebury and Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge; joined the Indian Civil Service 1910 and served in Bombay Presidency; on the outbreak of war joined the Army Reserve of Officers and volunteered for flying training in Egypt; having suffered from malaria in India he was medically unfit to qualify as a pilot, and he became an observer, taking part in bombing missions over the Turkish occupied desert; Collector of Sholapur 1930; various appointments in Bombay Presidency including Deputy Secretary Finance Dept., Director of Commercial Intelligence, Director of Industries (C.I.E. 1936; K.C.S.I. 1944); Acting Governor of Bombay March to May 1945, acting Governor of Madras February to May 1945, of Burma June to August 1946 and of Assam September to December 1946; Adviser to Secretary of State for India 1947; Assistant Secretary Ministry of National Insurance 1947-50; Sir Henry´s last appointment was as the U.K. Representative on the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East 1950-53.
