Belgium, Death of Marie Countess of Flanders 1912, by Tony Antoine Szirmai, two large uniface models, 160mm., of the obverse and reverse, both signed ´Szirmai´, silvered metal, very fine, mounted for display in glazed, leather covered frame, 53cm. x 33cm., gilt blocked with a crown and four fleurs-de-lys Estimate £ 60-100 Tony Antoine Szirmai, a prolific sculptor and medallist from Hungary, produced numerous portrait medals of members of European Royal Houses in the first quarter of the 20th century. This medal was exhibited at the Paris Salon of 1913 (see Forrer, Biographical Dictionary Of Medallists, vol.8, pp. 229-230) Marie Louise Alexandrine Caroline (1845-1912), youngest daughter of Karl Anton, Prince of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen, married Philippe Count of Flanders, 25 April 1867. Their second son Albert, who succeeded his uncle as Albert I King of the Belgians in 1909, was the grandfather of Princess Maria Beatrice of Savoy.
