Liverpool Shipwreck and Humane Society Small Silver Medal, 38mm. (To Captn. J.A. Jacobsen. S.S. ´Napierian.´ For Humane Service. 24th Dec: 1915), nearly extremely fine, without its silver riband buckle Estimate £ 100-120 ´Silver Medal and iluminated certificate of thanks to Captain Jorgen August Jacobsen, S.S. Napierian.......for rescuing the crew, 12 in number, of the Norwegian barque Ragnvald, in mid-Atlantic on 24th December 1915.......The arrival of the Napierian was very timely, as the crew of the barque were absolutely helpless and exhausted, their vessel being a complete wreck, waterlogged, sails gone, boats swept away, food all gone, houses on deck and cabin gutted, and the ship fast sinking and breaking up. As it was impossible to get alongside, the crew had to jump overboard one by one, and be picked up by the rescuing boat.´ (77th Annual Report of the Committee of the Liverpool Shipwreck and Humane Society 1916 refers).
