The short two page letter is to his young son George: Machine Gun 4th Black Watch British Expeditionary Force France 6/6/15 Dear George How are you behaving yourself & are you assisting mama & being a good boy. Im sure you are no trouble to mama. What about Jack does he behave? I expect you will be able to run very fast now. How far will you give your dada a start. Dada is in the trenches & sitting in a dugout made of earth & covered with wood & sand bags. The bad Germans were trying to knock in the parapet a few minutes ago but it wont go. I enclose some cigarette photos which came out of cig boxes that I received in the trenches. They are very interesting & touching to read the back of them. Excuse the short note as I have a lot of work to do. With very best love to all at Windsor Terrace, I am your loving dada J.C.Wilson
