x Kings of All England, Aethelstan (924-939), circumscription cross type, Penny, 1.53g., Chester, Wulfstan, aedelstan rex to br, small cross pattée, rev. vvlfstan mo lege, small cross pattée, annulet in field (Blunt 158; SCBI 5 (Chester), 34 (same obv. die); N.672; S.1093), small edge crack at 4 o´clock, otherwise deeply toned, good very fine, very rare with annulet in field Estimate £ 600-800 PROVENANCE: Spink Numismatic Circular, May 1994, no.3203 Blunt 158 notes that coins of this moneyer are known with an annulet (Chester 32), pellet (Chester 34) or crescent (Drabble 409 = Marshall 49) in the obverse field. This coin is from the same obverse die as Chester 34 and proves that the pellet on that coin is a filled in annulet
