Cape of Good Hope, South Africa, government promissory note, £1, 1st August 1838, serial number 10108,

In July 1831 the Cape Government replaced their existing rixdollar paper currency with a new issue in pounds sterling. Denominations were £1, £5, £10, £20, £50 and £100. By 1852 only £800 of this issue was still outstanding.
