Edward III, transitional-treaty period, Noble, 7.67g., London, king standing facing in ship, holding sword and shield, reads dns hib z a, rev., floriated cross with lis at ends, large E in centre, annulets at corners of central compartment, reads ihe avtem per mediv (omitting transiens), trefoils of three pellets in spandrels, double saltire stops, m.m. cross potent on reverse only (LAL dies Cc/1; Schneider 55-6 (same obv. die); N.1222; S.1499), very slight double striking on side of ship, good very fine, rare Estimate £ 1,250-1,500 provenance: G V Doubleday, Glendining, 7 June 1972, lot 162 The omission of the word tranciens, from transitional-treaty noble reverse dies LAL 1 and 2, is curious and gives the reverse legend an unusually well-spaced appearance.
