Italian States Papal States 1868 (12 Mar.) perforated typographed on coloured paper, 20c. magenta diagonal bisect (upper right/lower left half) applied on 1870 (16 Apr.) entire from Rome to Civitavecchia in order to pay the 10c. rate, but unaccepted by the post office and with "fuori d'uso" annotation, tied by several strikes of the "3" tax h.s. with Roma despatch c.d.s (16/4) adjacent, backstamped by arrival c.d.s. (17/4). There is no official record of the 20c. bisect being sanctioned for the use of this cover, which is of exceptional interest and rarity, is offered strictly on its merits.
