George III, (1760-1820), Captain Cook's Second Voyage to the Pacific Ocean, 1772, the "Resolution and Adventure" or "Otaheite" Medal, struck in copper, 43mm, laureate head of King right, B.F. on truncation, george.iii.king.of.gr.britain.france.and.ireland.etc. rev. view of the frigates "Resolution" and "Adventure" names above, inscription in exergue, sailed.from.england march.mdcclxxii (Betts 552; BHM 165; MH 373; Eimer 744) contemporary but possibly non-original brass loop for suspension attached and probably intended for use in presentation to natives on the voyage, a few small digs on bust and one on reverse. Die flaw on reverse, nearly very fine and rare Struck from the first die which cracked immediately.
