The Unique Queen's Army Best Shot Medal Pair to Corporal G. Bryant, 62nd Foot Queen's Army Best Shot Medal, V.R. (No.666 Private. G. Bryant. 62nd. Foot. 1870-71); Queen's Army Best Shot Medal, V.R. (666. Pte.G. Bryant. 62nd Regt.), both medals nearly extremely fine, mounted as worn with top riband silver buckle, the reverse engraved 'G. Bryant H.M. 62nd. Regt. Champion Shot British Army 1873' (2) Estimate £ 1,400-1,800 Corporal George Bryant (1843-78), born in Kensington; enlisted for ten years service, 1860 and joined the 1st Battalion The Wiltshire Regiment in Nova Scotia 1861; served with the Battalion in Ireland 1866-68 when he was re-engaged to 14 years, and in India; while serving at Lucknow and Barrackpore Bryant won two Queen's Army Best Shot Medals, both of which he was entitled to wear; he suffered from illness for several years, and died in hospital in India at the age of 35. Sold with a copy of The King's and Queen's Medal for Shooting 1869-1998 by David Owen, with Bryant's medals illustrated on the back cover. The Army Best Shot Medal authorised in 1869, became obsolete in 1883 but the counter-part of the original award was re-instituted in 1923 as The King's Medal for Champion Shots of the Army.
