Three-line gold weight legend within lined rectangle. Fr.190, KM 34. In the 1940's, the Arabian-American Oil Company (Aramco) paid the government of `Abd al-`Aziz $3 million a year in oil revenues. Its contract required payment in gold, thus gold 4 Pounds and Pounds (Sovereigns) were produced at the Philadelphia mint to satisfy this requirement. These pieces saw limited circulation in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, while some Aramco workers even used them as poker chips. Most were melted down into bullion and sold as gold bars in Macau.
