Sicily, Syracuse (c. 450-430 B.C.), AR Tetradrachms (2), charioteer driving biga right, Nike flying right above to crown horses, rev. head of Arethusa right, four dolphins around (SNG ANS 206 and 238), good fine to nearly very fine (2) Estimate £ 200-300 The letter a appears on the neck of Arethusa on the second coin, and should be regarded as an engraver's signature rather than a magistrate's name (see L. Forrer, Notes sur le signature..., pp. 21ff.). This variety is scarcer than that where the a appears on the sakkos.
