Commonwealth, Halfcrown, 15.10g., 1651, m.m. sun on obverse only, shield of St. George within a wreath, rev. conjoined shields of St. George and Ireland, II vi above (ESC 426; N.2722; S.3215), a splendid coin, lightly double struck on obverse legend, otherwise well centred on a full round flan, deeply toned, extremely fine, extremely rare in this condition Estimate £ 1,500-2,000 provenance:

There was a very similar 1651 halfcrown, struck from the same obverse die as this piece, in the first H A Parsons sale (Sotheby, 28 October 1929, lot 596), described as 'an exceptionally brilliant example, nearly equal to a proof'
