Cut-quarter of a small oval, C12th, silver ingot, 27x23 mm., 20.95g., the bottom roughly convex with very pitted surface and traces of grey/green sandy deposit, the top smooth and shiny with traces of black slag, cut almost through first along the longer axis by a single blow of a sword or axe and then snapped, cut through secondarily and snapped more crudely to form a quarter, with a test (?) cut in the lower surface, an interesting piece Estimate £ 40-50
