Lot: 626

CAPE OF GOOD HOPE 1861 "Woodblock" Issue Errors Of Colour Due to the nature of the paper used for these issues many examples show irregularities, both in the form of surface pitting and in the form of pre-printing paper creases. Our descriptions usually exclude the above, any defects mentioned being those which occurred after the stamps were delivered One Penny Pale Milky Blue Pair comprising the error se-tenant with 4d. pale milky blue, large to enormous margins and sharing a fine single strike of the triangular cancellation leaving the "error" value tablet clear; crease across one corner crosses both values and is barely discernable on the face. A remarkable example of this classic rarity. R.P.S. Certificate (2001). S.G. 13c/14. Photo Estimate £ 60,000-65,000 provenance: The Royal Philatelic Collection, Spink, May 2001 Note: The above pair was included in the magnificent display of the Royal Philatelic Collection, by gracious permission of Her Majesty The Queen, at the Stamp Show 2000 The pair is illustrated in colour in "The Royal Philatelic Collection" by Sir John Wilson Bt.
