A Collection of Victorian Volunteer Artillery Uniforms A mid-Victorian junior officer's blue Full Dress jacket of Volunteer Horse Artillery, with scarlet collar, trimmed with silver cord, lace and braid as for regular RHA, fifteen loops in front, fastened by ball buttons bearing 1855-73 device of Crown above three Guns, Lieutenant's Crowns in gold embroidery on collar, plain cord loops on shoulders; an RA Volunteer officer's Full Dress tunic circa 1865, collar and cuffs trimmed with silver lace and cord, white metal buttons of 1855-73 pattern, silver cord loops on shoulders, edging of scarlet Russia braid to fronts of tunic and skirt-pleats, Lieutenant's embroidered crowns on collar; another officer's Full Dress tunic, of slightly later date, similar to previous item but with lower collar, edging of silver braid eyes to Austrian knots on sleeves, indicating Captain's rank (collar-badges missing) and scarlet cloth piping on fronts and skirt-pleats, massive quilted lining; a Corporal's Full Dress tunic, also circa 1870, with scarlet cloth collar edged all round with silver Russia braid and laced along the top, Austrian knots of very narrow silver cord on sleeves, two-bar chevron of silver lace on scarlet backing on both sleeves, scarlet cloth piping to fronts and skirt-pleats; an officer's stable/mess-jacket of unusual pattern, the fronts, without studs, fastening with hooks and eyes, the jacket edged all round with silver Russia braid, with an inner row 5/8 in. silver "basket" lace, forming "eyes" at the base of the backseams, Captain's Austrian knots on sleeves, formed of three rows of silver Russia interspersed with two rows of scarlet Russia, and traced all round with small silver Russia eyes, scarlet piping in backseams as for Lancers (one shoulder-cord button missing); and a Captain's mess jacket of similar date, edged all round with 1/2 in.silver lace, studs to both front edges, Austrian knots on sleeves, traced with Russia braid eyes, twisted silver shoulder-cords with "Engineer Knots" (badges of rank removed from collar) (6) See illustration of two items Estimate £ 300-400 The first item is believed to have belonged to Thomas Tate of the Percy Artillery (formed 1867).
