A Pair of Sealed Pattern Overalls for Mounted Troops and a Pair of Pantaloons An extremely interesting and important pair of trousers in fine and massive blue cloth, with cloth strapping to seat and black leather strappings to lower leg and ankles, a scarlet cloth stripe to one leg, faded yellow braid stripe to other leg, six labels attached, bearing eleven seals, the master label dated 1866 and stating that these overalls were for Cavalry, Royal Artillery, and mounted troops of the Royal Engineers, the other labels mainly giving specific details of differences for individual units; together with a pair of blue pantaloons by Lehmann, Aldershot, with 21/2 in. scarlet cloth stripes for a General Officer (2) See illustration of first item Estimate £ 180-250 "Booted overalls", or trousers heavily strapped with leather for riding, were introduced during the Crimean War. They were abolished in 1871 when mounted troops adopted pantaloons and knee-boots.
