London Gazette 13.9.1915, John Bertie Williams, 'for services in submarines in the Sea of Marmara.' The distinguished submarine E12 (Lieutenant Commander Kenneth Bruce D.S.O.), entered the Sea of Marmara 21.6.1915, and in October that year surpassed all previous records by extending her patrol to 40 days, accounting for four steamers, 30 various other craft, as well as damaging numerous patrol vessels and magazines and railways ashore, etc.
