Military General Service 1793-1814, three clasps, Vittoria, Orthes, Toulouse (Hon. A.F. Berkeley, Lieut. 10th Hussars.), extremely fine, with contemporary silver riband buckle Estimate £ 1,600-1,800 Lieutenant The Honourable Augustus FitzHardinge Berkeley (1789-1872), 3rd son of the 5th Earl of Berkeley, Lieutenant 10th Hussars, 1813; 'Marshal Soult was retreating slowly and in good order upon Toulouse, and in following him up it was necessary that every inch of country should be carefully patrolled. There were skimishes almost daily, and by constant practice both officers and men had acquired great proficiency in outpost duties. Lieutenant - Colonel Palmer, who was a most enterprising officer and an admirable horseman, gained much distinction in this campaign, and the gallant conduct and skilful leading under very arduous circumstances of the following officers was also brought to official notice: Captain Gordon, Harding..........Lieutenant Augustus Berkeley...' (Memoirs of the Tenth Hussars refers); subsequently served in the Royal Wagon Train.
