Pair: General Henry Nicoll, 50th Bengal Infantry Punniar Star 1843; Punjab 1848-49, no clasp (Lieutt Henry Nicoll 50th Regt Native Infy), both medals fitted with additional swivel rings below the scroll bar suspensions, very fine (2) Estimate £ 650-700 General Henry Nicoll C.B. (1816-1907), born Lyndhurst, Hampshire, an Addiscombe Cadet 1833-34; Ensign 1835; arrived in India July 1835 and was posted to the 50th Bengal Native Infantry in September that year; served with the Regiment in operations in Bundelcund 1842-43 and in the Second Sikh War; Captain 1849; Acting Brigade Major at Cawnpore 1854 and Brigade Major at Delhi June 1854-60 and was present during the Santhall Revolt of 1855, the action at Badli-ki-Serai, and the siege and capture of Delhi, and acted as Brigade Major with the Delhi Field Force (Medal with clasp, Mentioned in Despatches, Brevet of Major); Major 1861; Colonel 1866; Lieutenant General 1880; General 1889; General Nicoll was awarded the C.B. posthumously (London Gazette 28.6.1907) on the 50th anniversary of Military Operations in India.
