Ghuznee 1839 (Lieut. A.Tweedale, 'th' Bombay Lancers), 'Ghuznee' inscribed in reverse centre, and edge engraved in large sloping serif capitals, nearly extremely fine Estimate £ 500-600 Captain Alexander Tweedale (1806-1907), joined as Lieutenant 3rd Native Infantry, 1824; transferred 24th Native Infantry, 1825; in the same year served in the newly raised 4th Extra Regiment; resigned commission, 1825; re-commissioned as a Cadet in the 1st Bombay Light Cavalry, 1826; mentioned in Sir J. Outram's Depatches, 10.10.1836 'The Thakur's first movement was to rush to his horse but, on looking round, he saw himself surrounded by the Cavalry, which had accompanied me under Lieut. Tweedale, and, having no hope of escape, was obliged, to submit peaceably to be placed upon his horse and led away in the midst of half the Troop of Cavalry, which immediately returned with him to Hursole. The alacrity with which the Cavalry acted, not asking to dismount for a moment, or even to drink water, after a march of upwards of twenty miles, excited my admiration; but it was necessary that no time should be lost in carrying away the Chief before his followers could arrange any attempt at a rescue, the more necessary as two of his retinue (who were a little apart when the Chief was arrested) had fled, and might, at a very short notice, assemble a numerous and strong body of the Chief's followers at his town of Mohunpoor, near which the cavalcade had to pass.'; advanced to Captain, 1841; Captain Tweedale retired 1845.
