A Great War Western Front M.C. Group of Eight to Lieutenant N. McCracken, Royal Sussex Regiment, Late 18th Battalion Royal Fusiliers Military Cross, G.V.R.; 1914-15 Star (1805 Pte. N. McCracken. R. Fus:); British War and Victory Medals, M.I.D. Oak Leaves (Lieut.); War and Defence Medals; Belgium, Croix de Guerre 1914-18; Belgium, Order of Leopold II, 5th Class, silver and enamel, with Palms, good very fine or better (8) Estimate £ 600-700 M.C. London Gazette 18.7.1917 Temp. 2nd Lt. Norman McCracken, R. Suss. R. 'For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He has performed valuable works when on patrol. He twice took out patrols under very heavy fire and came in contact with the enemy each time. He also organised the cutting of our own wire, which was carried out under heavy shell fire.' Lieutenant Norman McCracken M.C., enlisted as Private 18th Battalion Royal Fusiliers; served in France and Belgium from 14.11.1915; commissioned, Lieutenant, Royal Sussex Regiment, 1916.
