†Charles I (1625-49), third coinage, Sixty shillings, 29.76g., Briot's issue, m.m. thistle and B, king crowned and in armour, holding sword upright, on 'Briot' horse left, sandy ground below, rev. crowned square-topped garnished shield, with Scottish arms in first quarter (B.5; SCBI35 1424-6 (same dies); S.5552), a beautifully struck coin, but has been lightly gilded, the gilding wearing on the high points, good very fine Estimate £ 600-800 provenance: F Willis, Glendining, 5 June 1991, lot 426
