†Elizabeth I (1558-1603), sixth issue, Crown, 29.44g., m.m. I, bust 9A, crowned bust left holding sceptre and orb, three fingers of hand visible, sceptre points to I, rev. long cross fourchee over square garnished shield, lower fleur-de-lis in first quarter of shield just touches framework (Cooper dies D-6; N.2012; S.2582), cut on reverse, lightly smoothed above shield, otherwise toned and well struck, with a pleasing portrait, good very fine, scarce thus Estimate £ 2,500-3,000 provenance: Neck, collection purchased en bloc by H Webb H Webb, Sotheby, 9 July 1894, lot 311 H E G Paget, Glendining, 25 September 1946, lot 25 Spink Auction 98, 16 June 1993, lot 332 See illustration on back cover
