†Edward III, transitional-treaty period, Noble, 7.60g., London, king standing facing in ship, holding sword and shield, reads angl dns hib z a, rev. floriated cross with lis at ends, large E in centre, annulets at corners of central compartment, lis in second quarter, reads per med illorr ibat, double saltire stops, m.m. cross potent on reverse only (LAL dies Cc/8; Schneider 56 (same obv. die); N.1222; S.1499), a tiny edge nick at 1 o'clock on reverse, otherwise good very fine, rare Estimate £ 1,250-1,500 provenance: Spink Auction 65, 5 October 1988, lot 1005 Sheffield Collection, Spink Noble Numismatics Sale No.43, 17 November 1993, lot 2618 Schneider 56 is also catalogued as struck from LAL dies Cc/8. The two coins are struck from very similar, but different, reverse dies. While transitional treaty half-nobles and quarter-nobles are not uncommon, the nobles are distinctly rare
