Scotland. Montrose Bank. 1 Pound. Montrose, 2nd May 1814. PMS MO1a. No. 33/383. Mermaid supported Arms upper left, ribboned bank title on column of roses and thistles left margin, two manuscript signatures below. Three black oval PAID stamps. Paid notation on back. Opened in 1814, the Montrose was taken over 12 years later, by the Dundee Union Bank, which was then absorbed by the Western Bank of Scotland in 1844. Some soiling on back, otherwise in excellent condition for a note that circulated over 200 years ago. Very Fine and Extremely rare. Ex Ken Norris Collection, Spink, July 27, 2023, lot 518.
