SUDAN Egyptian Adhesives used in the Sudan Suakin 1888 envelope registered to Vienna, bearing 1888 5m. red block of six (on reverse) and a vertical pair tied by bi-lingual "sawakin" c.d.s., showing registration h.s. and, on reverse, Suez, Alexandria and arrival datestamps. The "envelope" was made by Slatin Pasha from a portion of his shirt when a prisoner in the Dervish Camp. It contained a letter to his sister, carried in a quilt by an Arab to Kitchener, then Governor of Sawakin, who applied the adhesives and forwarded the letter.
