SUDAN Early and Historical Letters 1876 (30 Aug.) entire letter from Gordon at M'rooli (now in Uganda) to his sister in Southampton, bearing Egypt 1872-75 perf 131/2 2pi. yellow and perf 121/2x131/2 21/2pi. violet applied and cancelled in transit by "poste egiziane/hartum" c.d.s. (15.10) and showing, on reverse, Siut (7.11) and arrival (20.11) datestamps; the contents of the letter read "I have proposed M'tesa a treaty recognising Independence of the country of Uganda and offering to take his Ambasadors down to Cairo". The envelope partly refolded and showing manuscript origin notations on reverse and on face. A very rare and desirable early letter. Photo
