†A Japanese Civil Uniform A coatee of black cloth, richly embroidered with gold foliate designs on fronts, collar, cuffs, skirt-edgings and pocket-flaps, the fronts fastening with hooks and eyes, with a row of ornamental gilt buttons; companion waistcoat with gilt buttons matching those on the coateee, and trousers with 21/4in. gold lace stripes; a fine folding bicorne hat in black silk with white ostrich-feather edging and massively embroidered velvet loop, in its shaped cardboard box; a smallsword (the blade apparently seized in its scabbard) with ornate and finely-gilded hilt, openwork shell, knucklebow guard with bird's head quillon, wire-wound grip and pommel bearing matt and burnished decoration, fitted with a gold lace sword-knot with bullion tassel, and black lacquered scabbard, the gilt locket and chape both decoratively engraved; and sundry minor items (lot) Estimate £ 1,200-1,800
