A Sword of General Officer's Pattern An early 1831-pattern weapon with unusually wide plain fullered blade (1 3/8in. at the forte, 293/4in. long), mameluke hilt with regulation brass (originally gilt) crosspiece bearing crossed sword and baton device in the écussons, ivory grip and relic sword-knot of red-flecked gold cord, bullion parts of the tassel now missing but head remaining, embroidered with WR cypher, in its wide brass scabbard with cruciform ring-bands Estimate £ 300-450 Note: The size and shape of the blade suggest that it may have been adapted from an 1803 pattern infantry officer's sword.
