Charles S Hervé: An Officer of the 3rd Light Dragoons In profile to left, in blue regimental uniform, column background. Watercolour on card, signed with initials and dated C.S.H. 1831 (71/4 in. x 51/2.in.); together with a small photograph of the same officer in retirement; and a contemporary print by Harris after Martens of a mounted officer of the same regiment, all in a glazed giltwood frame (lot) Estimate £ 300-450 Note: This miniature portrait depicts Captain William Walter Congreve, the grandfather of Walter Norris VC. Born 1804, commissioned into 3rd Light Dragoons 1825, Lieutenant 1827, Captain 1833. He later became a County Inspector in the Royal Irish Constabulary. He died in 1860. This portrait must have been painted only months before the change to scarlet uniform for Light Dragoons. Charles Hervé (an exhibitor at the Royal Academy 1835 - 58) was a member of a large family of artists. He was particularly known as a painter of silhouettes.
