China War 1856-60, two clasps, Taku Forts 1860, Pekin 1860 (Lt. Col. T.C. Knox. C.B. 67th Regt.), good very fine with silver riband buckle Estimate £ 1,200-1,400 C.B. London Gazette 1.3.1861 Lieutenant-Colonel Thomas Edmond Knox, 67th Regiment General Thomas Edmond Knox, C.B. born 16.3.1820, entered the 98th Foot as Ensign 1838 and transferred 85th Foot the following month; Lieutenant 1842, advanced to Captain 1846; Major, 3rd Battalion West India Regiment 1852 and exchanged to the 67th Regiment 1853; Lieutenant Colonel 1858; served in Bengal 1858-59 and commanded the 67th Regiment throughout the campaign in China 1860 including the action of Sinho, the taking of Tonghoo, and led the storming party across the main ditch at the taking of the inner Taku fort, when 77 Officers and men of the 67th were killed or wounded (Mentioned in Lieutenant General Sir Hope Grant's Despatch of 24.8.1860, London Gazette 4.11.1860); C.B. 1861; was present at the surrender of Pekin; Brevet Colonel 1863 and exchanged to the 9th Foot the following year and commanded them until 1874, whilst employed in Japan until the British Legation; rose to Lieutenant General 1881 and retired with the Honorary rank of General the same year.
