Great Britain Mulready 2d. letter sheet, a197, addressed to Ledbury, showing ink addition to the design at lower-left, the seated woman now has a cradle at her feet and babe in arms, the address panel with superb strikes of the red London Paid 'tombstone' datestamp of 18 October 1844 and blue-green "Newington Butts/2D. PAID", ink manuscript note under flap reading "I hope the postman will not steal this letter for the sake of the picture!"; vertical fold and a few negligible surface scrapes though in no way detracting from the extraordinary item which combines contrary to regulations use, coloured marking and 'caricature' comment ink addition.
