Lot: 723

Great Britain 1676 (24 June) entire letter (on gilt-edged paper) from Whitehall to Lord Halton "his Majties. Private Deputy in Scotland", without postal markings, presumably carried by an official messenger, the reverse showing very fine, almost complete red wax seal showing a crown, the arms of the Scottish lion and the legend "honi soit qui mal y pense", interesting content in which the sender advises Lord Halton that he has shown his letter to the King and which "by his command I did read to him every word, he was exceedingly pleased with it, & is most fixed in his resolution..."; trace of soiling though still fine.
