Great Britain 1610 Royal letter on vellum, illuminated in gold on the address panel and inside within exquisitely drawn foliate borders, addressed "To the moste High and mightie Emperor Sultan Achomet Cham; the onlie Supreame Monarch of the Easterne Empire; etc.", signed by the King of England "James R" the letter, hand delivered by Jonas Aldridge, draws the Sultan's attention to the plight of English merchants at Patras and Lepanto, specifically the false imprisonment of the Levant Company Consul, William Brewer, by the Bey of Morea in Patras, allegedly so that his goods and property could be stolen and furthermore that when he attempted to seek redress, through the English Ambassador in Patras, he was poisoned; some slight soiling though in absolutely no way detracting from this stunningly beautiful and most interesting Royal letter.
