Italy — 1863 15c., exhibition collection (large vermeil) of the lithographed and imperforate 15c blue, types 1 and 11, printed in sheets of 200 and distributed in panes of 50. The first stamp to indicate the country "italiano". The collection commences with two examples of the Sardinia-type 15c cobalt (Sass. 11) postmarked with Torino c.d.s and dated 1.1.1863 - the rare first day of issue. The 15c blue lithograph thus follows with covers, of type 1 (40) and type 11 (38) including nine pairs and a strip of 3. These are all used within Sardinia/Italy/Sicily and are cancelled in towns from "A" to "V". Included are such scarce usages such as - Comitini, Favara, Isnello, Marineo (three covers recorded), Molo di Girgenti, Mussomeli, Novara, Novara di Sicilia (two covers recorded only one on this stamp), Piazza Armerina, Serradifalco, Spadafora, Termini Imerese, Terranova di Sicilia, Tusa and Vicari. Other scarce items include early usages (March), line under "Q" on type 11, a gutter pair on cover from Girgenti (only recorded). All major items with certificates.
