Charles I, Newark besieged, Halfcrown, 14.97g., 1646, large double-arched crown dividing c r, value below, rev., obs: newark 1646 in three lines (Hird 246 (same obv. die); N.2638; S.3140A), two edges smoothed, dent on reverse, otherwise very fine or better Estimate £ 1,000-1,250 provenance: Spink Numismatic Circular, July 1942, no.15429 £5-10-0 Struck from the same obverse die as lot 138. The die flaws appear to be much less developed on the 1646 halfcrown, though this is probably because the die impression is shallower
