Great Britain. South African Campaign Medal to Private David Philipps, 2nd Battalion, 24th Foot. Killed in Action at the Battle of Isandhlwana 22.1.1879.

South Africa Medal, 1877-1879. One clasp: "1877-8" (1853 PTE D. PHILLIPS. 2/24TH FOOT). The number 1853 engraved in error for the correct number 1383 (verified and authenticated by Zulu War expert Norman Holme). 1383 Private David Phillips attested at Brecon April 23, 1877. He served in "A" Company, 2nd Battalion, 24th Regiment. He was killed in action at the Battle of Isandhlwana, January 22, 1879. He was entitled to the "1879" clasp. His "Effects [were] claimed by his mother, brother and sisters. Medal and clasp '1877-8-9' issued on 14/11/81". On original ribbon. Lightly toned. Extremely Fine. Set in a handsome 13 x 23 ½ frame with Regimental hat badge and belt buckle on green cloth background with brass informational placard (Zulu misspelled "Zula").
