Great Britain. World War I. Rondel Insignia from a downed British aircraft, the Somme Offensive, 1916. Piece of canvas cut from the fuselage. Original label adhered to the back of the canvas reads: "Emblem cut from a crashed British plane by Capt. C.T. Stafford during the closing stages of the Great Somme Offensive. Put on display by his mother in the Clifford Exhibition to raise money for the Fairmount Memorial Hospital". Framed, 29" x 29", with plexiglass for viewing from both sides.
