El Salvador. Medal for Distinguished Valor to the Loyal Defenders, ca. 1839. Silver, 36mm. Uniformed bust of President Francisco Morazan left, shield suspender above with volcano and stars rev. Four-line legend within wreath, shield above with date 15 SETBRE 1821. Instituted May 1839 to reward Salvadorean soldiers who defeated the Guatemalan invasion and gained victory over Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. Rare. Toned. About Uncirculated.
