Great Britain. Queen's South Africa Medal, 1899-1902. Three clasps: "Cape Colony", "Orange Free State" and "Transvaal" (83563 GNR: A. THOMAS. 66TH BTY: R.F.A.). Impressed. On ribbon. About Very Fine; also "South Africa 1900" chocolate tin. Embossed image of Victoria, her cipher and message "I wish you a happy New Year. Victoria R.I." on lid. Designed by Barclays & Fry, Southwark, the tins and chocolates were paid for Queen Victoria. A total of 123,000 were sent to troops fighting in the Boer War by the end of 1900. Scuffs at edges. (2)
