England. William and Mary (1688-1694). On the Death of Queen Mary. Dutch Medal. Silver, 43mm. By Jan Drappentier. Britannia, her hands clasped, kneeling before an altar on which rests a burning censor, addressing a prayer to heaven: O SERVES ANIMAE DIMIDIUM MEAE ("Oh, Preserve her who is half of my soul"), BRITANNIA SUPLEX 1695 in ex., rev. Funeral pall adorned with the crowned shields of England, Scotland, France and Ireland, a radiate celestial crown in the clouds above; PRAELUCET QUATUOR UNA ("One outshines four"). The obverse, states MI "was perhaps prepared, or in course of preparation, before the death of the Queen; it contains a prayer for her preservation. The reverse asserts the superiority of one celestial over four terrestrial crowns." MI ii 120/362; V. Loon IV, 189). Very rare. Some rim taps and small edge bruises. Toned. Extremely Fine.
