England. Charles I (1625-1649). Peace or War, 1643. Medal. Silver, 29mm. By T. Rawlins. Laureate, armored and draped bust right, rev. Crossed sword and olive branch, crowned C - R; N. VLTRUMQVE PARATVS. After the Royalists under Prince Rupert stormed and took Bristol in July, a state of uncertainty ensued. The Royalists indeed had captured the important port but incurred very heavy losses in doing so. These losses made Charles hesitate in having Prince Rupert make a swift assault on Gloucester, instead beginning a siege, which was quickly ended by a Parliamentary relief army.
