NGC ???? | Victoria (1837-1901), 'Shieldback' Sovereign, 1838, first small young head left, W.W. raised on truncation, rev. crowned normal shield in wreath, edge milled, 7.98g, 6h (MCE 499; Marsh 22; Bull 1054; Bentley 36; Spink 3852), traces of contact marking across the obverse and the softest of rub to the highest points of the hair, nevertheless the fields with a full mint bloom and an underlying flashy-brilliance to the reverse, enhanced by orange toning to rich golden surfaces, a handsome extremely fine example, first year of issue and scarcely encountered in this condition, in NGC holder (Cert. #6767928-001)
