Charles II (1660-1685), Pattern Broad, 1662, by Thomas Simon, CAR: II D: G: M • BR • FR ET HI REX, laureate draped and cuirassed bust left, nine leaves in wreath, with berries, no artist's initial below, rev. FLORENT CONCORDIA REGNA, crowned squared-topped shield, edge plain, 9.07g, 6h (BNJ, Lessen G2/3; Schneider II, 421; EGC 165 [R3]; North 2780; Spink 3337A), light smoothing in reverse fields where traces of pawnbroker's graffito, otherwise pleasingly original with residual brilliance in recesses, a handsomely bold very fine, only 3,400 struck; this an extremely rare variety only posited to exist by Lessen
