Italy. Francesco Novello II da Carrara, Lord of Padua. 19th-early 20th Century Silver cast of the 1390 dated Medal. 31mm. Bust right, rev. Undercarriage of a four-wheel wagon within a six lobed cartouche, engraved series of numbers. This and another similar medal commemorate the recovery of Padua from Milan in 1390. The original Carrara medals are considered among the prototypes of the art form, predating Pisanello's medal of John VIII Palaeologus by nearly half a century. Toned. Extremely Fine.
